This month I have some different genres that I am interested in that come out this month!! Which is great because broadening your horizons is good for the soul!
There were a lot of new releases this month so I picked from the Top 20 on Goodreads and picked my 4 favorite, Genres include:
Mystery, Science Fiction, Horror, and Thriller
Billy Summers by Stephen King Genre: Horror

"Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business. But he’ll do the job only if the target is a truly bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there is one last hit. Billy is among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done. So what could possibly go wrong?
How about everything."
This new book by Stephen King has a 4.39 star review on Goodreads already. It's a pretty lengthy book with 513 pages, and it released August 3rd.
This book seems a bit different than his other horror novels, and the one reason I am going to give it a try is because it's Stephen King and his books are usually 5 star for me. The cover is beautiful and definitely reaches the eye and I am excited to see how he portrays a sniper.
2. Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens Genre: Mystery

"The Cold Creek Highway stretches close to five hundred miles through British Columbia’s rugged wilderness to the west coast. Isolated and vast, it has become a prime hunting ground for predators. For decades, young women traveling the road have gone missing. Motorists and hitchhikers, those passing through or living in one of the small towns scattered along the region, have fallen prey time and again. And no killer or abductor who has stalked the highway has ever been brought to justice.
Hailey McBride calls Cold Creek home. Her father taught her to respect nature, how to live and survive off the land, and to never travel the highway alone. Now he’s gone, leaving her a teenage orphan in the care of her aunt whose police officer husband uses his badge as a means to bully and control Hailey. Overwhelmed by grief and forbidden to work, socialize, or date, Hailey vanishes into the mountainous terrain, hoping everyone will believe she’s left town. Rumors spread that she was taken by the highway killer—who’s claimed another victim over the summer.
One year later, Beth Chevalier arrives in Cold Creek, where her sister Amber lived—and where she was murdered. Estranged from her parents and seeking closure, Beth takes a waitressing job at the local diner, just as Amber did, desperate to understand what happened to her and why. But Beth’s search for answers puts a target on her back—and threatens to reveal the truth behind Hailey’s disappearance…"
This book released on August 3rd with a 4.17 star review on Goodreads already. In this 384 page novel, you will be pounded with mystery after mystery... or so it seems from the review. Usually books like these can be somewhat boring, predictable, and slow but the author seems very promising and the reviews are amazing. I am always a sucker for a good cover also, and this one definitely drew my attention! Also, who doesn't love reading about serial killers?
3. The Perfect Family by Robyn Harding Genre: Thriller/Suspense

"Thomas and Viv Adler are the envy of their neighbors: attractive, successful, with well-mannered children and a beautifully restored home.
Until one morning, when they wake up to find their porch has been pelted with eggs. It’s a prank, Thomas insists; the work of a few out-of-control kids. But when a smoke bomb is tossed on their front lawn, and their car’s tires are punctured, the family begins to worry. Surveillance cameras show nothing but grainy images of shadowy figures in hoodies. And the police dismiss the attacks, insisting they’re just the work of bored teenagers. Unable to identify the perpetrators, the Adlers are helpless as the assaults escalate into violence, and worse. And each new violation brings with it a growing fear. Because everyone in the Adler family is keeping a secret—not just from the outside world, but from each other. And secrets can be very dangerous….
This twisty, addictively page-turning suspense novel about a perfect family’s perfect façade will keep you turning pages until its explosive ending."
I am always hesitant on the whole "family secret" drama books because sometimes they are just trying to hard, but I've had some really good luck lately with these types of books so I am going to give it a shot!
This book releases August 10th, with 352 pages - which seems like the perfect size book for this plot. The ratings right now on Goodreads are 3.84 stars, which isn't bad at all! It looks like most people are giving it 4 stars, which is fine because 4 star books are still good... in my book...haha.
4. Reclaimed by Madeleine Roux Genre: Science Fiction

"In this claustrophobic science fiction thriller, a woman begins to doubt her own sanity and reality itself when she undergoes a dangerous experiment.
The Ganymede compound is a fresh start. At least that's what Senna tells herself when she arrives to take part in a cutting-edge scientific treatment, where participants have traumatic memories erased.
And Senna has reasons for wanting to escape her past.
But almost as soon as the treatment begins, Senna finds more than just her traumatic memories disappearing. She hardly recognizes her new life or herself. Even though the symptoms for the process might justify the cure, Senna knows that something isn't right. As her symptoms worsen, Senna will need to band together with the other participants to unravel the mystery of her present, and save her future."
Y'all I am SO excited for this book. The main reason is because the author, Madeleine Roux, was one of my first authors I ever really loved. The "Asylum" novels were my favorite!! Now her going from paranormal to science fiction... if she can do that... it will be grand!
This book releases August 17th with 368 pages, and has a 3.82 star review on Goodreads. I could see this book turning into a series, because if it doesn't... we are going to get a lot of information very fast-paced in the book - which is totally fine by me!
So there is my August 2021 line up....and I actually had other but after reviewing them some more I decided to remove them from my list, feeling a little disappointed in what August had to offer. But if you give any of these books a read, PLEASE let me know... I would love to hear your review
