Recently I have been hooked on contemporary romances, my friend actually got me started on my first one and every now and again I read one because it's light-hearted and funny... This book was SO much different from what I normally read. BUT - I received this book for free so I am going to give my honest review!
This book isn't like your normal type of romance because there isn't much romance... haha. While the reason is about love, this book is about a divorced man and woman who hate each other and end up bumping into each other.
Quick Summary
This book is told from the point of view from Amy and Joel. They have now been divorced for over 2 years and moved onto other partners they are dating. Coincidentally, they both decide to take a vacation, at the same time, at the same place. The two have a terrible hate towards each other from something that happened years ago at their workplace, and they haven't gotten over it. So through the entire book they both try hard to avoid each other, sabotage each other, and overall they don't really enjoy their vacations. Towards the end of the book they seem to get tired of all this hate and try to work for less hostility - but secrets come out that unravel one of the couples relationship.
Like I said earlier - there isn't much romance in this book, I think the plot was supposed to be around divorce and the hate that it brings and trying to get over the differences together. Because intimately you married that person once so you loved them once, it's hard to let those memories go.
I was worried towards the end of the book the author was going to try and push Amy and Joel together but I was very happy to say it went another direction. So while it wasn't the type of love I normally like to read about, it was still very heartfelt and touched on realistic events that happen in peoples lives.
The only downfalls to this book though were it was kind of boring... the entire book was really just filler towards the end goal. Joel sometimes would go on rambling for pages and pages that honestly was meaningless to the story - so that lost me a bit.
I think if you have gone through a divorce, or going through one now it would be an interesting perspective. I would LOVE to see this book as a movie though because I think it would probably be better.
I do want to say thank you again to Goodreads for the free copy and I do intend to read more of Nick Spalding's books because I have heard great things!
