WOW!
What a crazy book full of crazy secrets! I am still trying to absorb the lives of these two woman!
I will start off saying that this book was pretty predictable but even though I guessed 80% of what happened... I was still pulled into the story and loving it all!
This book also was nothing what I thought it was going to be.. I thought it was going to be about two sisters who have some dark secret that separated them but BOY, was I wrong!
Quick Summary
This book is actually about a mother and a daughter who are both older in age. They live together but Maggie, the mother, is locked upstairs against her will by her own daughter, Nina. There are multiple secrets that Maggie has kept from Nina only to "protect" her but that ends up not going well for her because Nina finds out about a pretty bad secret and that's why she locks her up. Maggie never ends up sharing the things she kept from her.. due to Nina has some type of psychological problem.. I think it's Dissociative Disorder. (Which is when one person experiences such a bad trauma they end up disconnecting is stressful situations) This book goes through Nina's young like and all the terrible mistakes she kept making and her mother trying to hide them all from her. Then the end is just a crazy disaster of destruction!
(I tried my best to describe what happened without telling you the spoilers... kinda hard)
Characters
Gosh, the characters were freaking amazing in this! I honestly couldn't tell who was at fault for half of the book (Nina VS. Maggie) But I have came to the conclusion I believe Nina really is at fault and her mother could have helped fix it but ended up making it worse by "fixing" it herself.
There are multiple other characters we are introduced to which pull the story together and I will tell you this - they both end up dying at the hands of Nina.
All I know - is if this was in real life, how could someone not come by and check with Maggie.. yeah she didn't have a lot of friends but come on!! And the repair people who had to add chains to a room and sound proof walls.... like RED FLAG!!!
Overall - this book was AMAZING despite it being somewhat predictable... I've heard great things from this author so I can't wait to read his other books! This book was a nice length of a book but I finished it in two days because that's how well it kept my attention!
