This book is only about 200 pages long, and overall was a pretty good read! It kept my attention, and that can be hard with books like these. I only gave it 4 star review though because it lacked some uniqueness to it.
I'm not sure if you have read a ghost story before but it usually consists of a person who died a terrible death and now their ghost lingers. Some innocent people come into the mix somehow and now have to save the day in order to get out of the mess.
Well that's what this book is... pretty spot on.
But I like those kinds of books every now and again
I will applaud Ibsen though because when we figure out the "real" story behind the ghost, who in this case is Ellie Pomeroy, it's actually made me laugh because hey... maybe the witch did what was coming to her?
Quick Summary
A young couple named Penny and Jared go on a camping trip in Kentucky where the land is cursed on a certain day every year. Well they go that day so the camp is pretty barren and end up seeing things, and having their reality get played with by this witch. They go through a series of realistic nightmares and end up coming to terms with having to defeat this curse themselves. Once they do that, it's pretty much happily ever after.
Characters
Penny is also why I gave this book 4 stars... she is one of the most ungrateful spoiled rotten brats I have EVER read about. I have no idea why her boyfriend has been with her for 6 plus years if they never do anything he loves... I personally would have a lot of resentment towards her. And now thinking about that, I feel like some of that resentment did kind of bubble up a little on their journey.
I also couldn't really figure out who Jared and Penny were in social circle wise. They seemed a bit nerdy, but also normal. No idea but that made it kind of hard to pin point personality traits through the book.
Regardless, if you love a good ghost book... give it a shot!
