An emotional mystery that will make you appreciate the little things.

The Moonlight Child By Karen McQuestion

Anyone else LOVE when they find a book that they love so much? It took me one whole day to read this book... and now I am sad I didn't take longer to enjoy it. I am also very surprised that this book was free on Kindle Unlimited.

Quick Summary

An older women named Sharon decides to do her daughter a favor and take in an older foster child, Nikki, who is in need. Together they witness strange events happening at the neighbor behind the house. While they navigate through new jobs, and adjusting to this new life they investigate their neighbor who claims they only have 1 son, when they notice a little girl around.

The Fleming family has a perfect life on the outside, Suzette, the mother plans it that way. But underneath their façade is a dysfunctional family who holds many secrets.

The Duncan family has been lost and afraid for the last 5 years as their daughter has disappeared with her drug addict boyfriend. But after years of silence they finally get clues and answers to their daughters whereabouts.

Characters

I think all the characters in this book were amazing, and perfect for their roles. The only family that really needed more was the Duncan's. There were answers left unsaid and their characters were merely there for informational connections, which I understand. But I would have liked to know more about their daughter, Morgan.

Nikki and Sharon - They are the perfect duo. Sharon is sweet and laid back but knows what she wants and Nikki is a foster child with a crappy past but has done well for herself, just worried about being accepted.

Fleming Family (Suzette and Jacob) - Suzette was described perfectly terrible, and it made me hate her so much. The author needed to paint the picture of terrible and controlling women with no heart and that's what they did. Then Jacob, I have such mixed feelings with because overall he is a good kid that was raised in a crappy family. But, I have never liked the pitty party aspect of things.

Finally Mia.... She makes this entire book. She is so sweet, innocent and honestly the world doesn't deserve her. The trauma she had to endure was terrible and would break your heart but she still was able to find happiness in the little things given to her. I would love to know her story when she gets older or even just an epilogue to know she's ok.

Plot

I think the plot was well planned out, it was quick and got to the point without rushing any details. I have heard some people don't like when you jump between point of views a bunch, and while I agree sometimes... this book is an exception. You needed all the points of view to get an idea of what was going on and a better idea of the characters development.

Overall - This book made want to cry, laugh, yell, and made my heart so warm and happy. It was the perfect mix of tragedy while making sure to give us hope and a happy ending.
