I am finally getting to read this series, I'm not sure about y'all but I see this book everywhere especially for recommendations from things I've read. If you have read any of my reviews so far you understand that I love dystopian type anything because it's so scary realistic. This book is a dystopian series with some intense romance, adventure, and fantasy. I will tell you - I was not expecting the fantasy so it through me off a bit (I'm not a huge fantasy reader) but I think the author as able to pull it off well.
Quick Summary
Juliette has lived her life in isolation due to her touch being deadly - literally. So her family abandons her and locks her up in an asylum until the leader of the "Reestablishment" takes her under his wing and uses her for bad. Juliette also meets Adam who is a soldier in the reestablishment but ends up finding a closer connection to him than she could ever imagine. Together they plan to escape the cruel world the leader intends to make only to realize there are other like Juliette trying to fight back.
Plot
I feel like this book has a lot of different themes going on such as an ongoing war with the world. But there is also Juliette trying to come to terms with her "power" and self-image and how to use that power for good and not evil. My favorite part is the romance - of course with Adam its electric and real but the author decided to put a little love triangle in with the Leader, Warner. While she obviously doesn't love him or want to she feels this pull to him because they are somewhat alike and I think deep down inside her it awakens something. Then there is the whole fantasy part, a world she has never seen before and with all these people with similar abilities. There is just a lot going on - which is exciting!
Like I said early - I am not a huge fan of fantasy only because it starts getting kind of corny and eye rolly (I know that isn't a word). As long as the author remains to keep it somewhat realistic and not unicorns and rainbows than I feel like this book will do well. I am also interested to see if Adam and Juliette make it through the entire series!
Overall guys - this series was great to start off with, the author does have a statement in the beginning about how it's written because there are words crossed out and lots of rambling but it's supposed to be like that - you're supposed to be inside Juliette's mind and in the beginning she is a mess so the pages look like a mess! But don't worry the more you read the better the pages and her mind become.
