If this book wasn't written by Madeleine Roux (who's other books I LOVE) I would have gave this book a 2 Star. From what I can tell, Roux mainly does young adult ghost stories and/or suspense type books and while this book has suspense it takes on the main roll of sci-fi and honestly it was hard to wrap my head around.
Some people may like Sci-Fi, and I just can't get a full grasp when I try and read them... don't get me wrong - I LOVE sci-fi movies but that's easier to fall along because you have images along with the story. When you're trying to read about some futuristic life with machines, black holes, etc it's hard to understand.
Quick Summary
The summary with the book honestly only gives one part of what's going on so I'll do my best to explain without sounding confusing haha. I believe the year is sometime after 2202 (I just remember a lot of 2s) and the world has initially gone to shit. There are people living on mars, moon, other planets and also other parts of the world that are rebuilt - I think. Senna is a girl who was born into a cult where they didn't believe in all the modernization and kind of stayed to themselves. But the leader tried to destroy it all and others - ending Senna traumatized and alone. There are also the stories of two other's who want to "erase" those traumatic moments and their names are Han, a 14 year old genius and Zuri, a supermodel.
They all come together at this planet where they are supposed to have these "sessions" that wipe away the memories they don't want. But as you probably guessed it - the leader of this Paxton, got a taste of power and couldn't stop himself so he erases more than he should. Senna and Zuri start to figure this out as they are being manipulated into obeying and finally they try and stop it and escape.
Plot
This book seriously had SO much potential so I was very let down when the book ended up how it did. The idea of getting memories wiped away you don't want is a super unique idea and has lots of opportunities for adventure, suspense, etc but Roux just made it kind of confusing and hard to follow. With Sci-Fi there is so much information and this book was around 290 some odd pages, so trying to squeeze that much info into one book can make things not so easy to follow.
We also didn't get much information into the trauma of what happened with Senna. I honestly was more intrigued by the cult and their story than the one that was written. The characters were also so odd and hard to follow along with at the beginning that I couldn't really get an idea of what they looked like. There was also this "shadow" that kept popping up and I am still confused to it's purpose and whether it was good or bad.
Overall y'all, it really wasn't the greatest book but I did receive this book for free so I will give my honest review in return. I still love Roux and her other books, so it's not gonna stop me from trying her others!
